It's hard to believe that it's been one whole year since the (international) debut of Disney's CGI feature "Zootopia" (or, as it's also known in other countries, "Zootopie", "Zoomania", and "Zootropolis"; it made its American premiere in March, 2016). Since then, the animated film not only developed a huge following (and not just of those into 'furry fandom') and raked in over $1 billion in worldwide box office receipts, it has also picked up numerous awards - including six Annie Awards, a Critic's Choice Award, and a Golden Globe Award (mainly for 'Best Animated Feature'). All of this now culminates to one last award "Zootopia" hopes to receive on the last weekend of February: the Academy Award.
Needless to say, I cannot pass up an opportunity to render some "Zootopia" fan art like this comic gag, that takes place on a 'red carpet' in the midst of a movie awards telecast for ZOO TV. Doing a parody of the RL telecast on ABC-TV (which, BTW, is owned by Disney), I just had to draw an anthropomorphic version of its emcee, (talk show host) Jimmy Kimmel - namely, 'Jimmy Kammel'! (I even gave the camel a beard and mustache similar to the one Kimmel sports!)
Joining 'Jimmy Kammel' on the 'red carpet' are the main characters of "Zootopia", 'Nick Wilde' and 'Judy Hopps' (with crowds of animals in the background, trying to take photos of all three celebrities). The fox, in a rare display of neatness, wears a formal suit and tie, while the rabbit has on a floor-length gown - with a 'carrot brooch' to complete her ensemble. Naturally, encountering a comedian like 'Jimmy', 'Nick' can't resist telling the camel a joke, while 'Judy' worries that the fox is going to tell the same joke he told 'Flash' back at the DMV!
This comic gag comes with a fake ad, promoting the "Zootopia Movie Awards" on ZOO TV. Later on, I will present an alternate version of the same gag with a RL ad for the Oscar telecast on ABC-TV. Here's hoping "Zootopia" caps off its initial year, picking up that golden statuette!
