Also, this hasn't been edited yet, but I'm posting it anyway. I'll tweak it later, for now enjoy the story!

"So you feel like you're not contributing to our relationship?" Venti and Art had talked during the jackal's break. Art mentioned how he was thinking of going back to college, which Venti supported without any hesitation. Yet he could tell there was still something else, an underlying current of discomfort in Art. After work Venti went over to Art's place and sweet talked the lion into telling him what was bothering him.
"Sometimes I feel that way, yeah." To his credit Art kept eye contact with Venti, though he was tempted to let his eyes roam.
"I think you contribute more than you know, Art." Venti drew the lion close to him, running his clawtips through the beaded mane, playing with a braid. "You keep me sane, and I hope I keep you from going crazy."
"In my own defense, you're occasionally the reason why I do go crazy."
Venti snorted. "Fair enough. God knows I'm not perfect, even if I pretend to be."
"God's not the only one who knows you're not perfect."
"You're only entitled to one 'fair enough' for ever serious talk we have." He then put Art in a loose headlock, letting the lion squirm out before he could inflict playful noogies on the crown of his skull.
"You're such a bully." Art then leaned up against Venti, rubbing his forearm. "You realize I'll be busy with school and work."
"I can still come over and distract you with my pretend perfect self."
"Knowing you you'll stay away so I can do my assignments."
"I'll only do that twice a week."
"Maybe they'll put you on the closing schedule at Frappuchinos."
"In two weeks that's a fair chance. I'm getting a few hours then."
Art looked up at Venti, a grin appearing on his muzzle like magic. Venti returned the grin immediately. "That's good news."
"You're telling me. Seems they're just doing a rotation thing."
Art resumed his lean against Venti. "Maybe things'll work out."
"Just as long as you continue to help prevent me from sabotaging stuff in my life."
Art stiffened. "How did you know?"
Venti kissed Art's cheek. "I pretend to be perfect. It doesn't mean I'm clueless."
