It is! It helps with their sense of smell, as New World vultures have some of the best bird noses :D

Yep, all my critter photos are of living things.

The nostril hole is actually a handle bar for ease of carrying your vulture.

In my youth I created a superhero character known as The Condor. The 'eyes' on his costume cowl were large and fake, and he actually looked out through the beak-holes ^^

Most vultures have brown eyes, as it happens. This fella is unusual in that he's got blue ones (something to do with poor eyesight, or maybe it's just a Frank Sinatra homage).

i found out quite a while ago... if it's still alive, a knife and fork just makes it mad. if it won't hold still on the plate, it doesn't belong there yet. ^.^

For whatever reason, we seem to find it more respectable for a critter to eat a freshly-killed prey than, say, snack on a three-day old roadkill. Vultures are invaluable, but nobody seems to respect them much.

I've never tried to put a fork into anything alive. :P

I wish my teeth were even half as awesome as that beak! Although, the head fuzzies and feathers stopping right at the neck makes it look like he fell asleep at a party and all the other frat birds shaved him.
