For some time now, I have been increasingly fascinated with belly dancers and over the past couple years, I've been dancing and slowly but surely getting better and better. I have never been part of a troupe and have only danced in front of other people a handful of times, but most of the time I dance for exercise and because its fun.
To me, belly dancing is a beautiful art that showcases the way the body can move in fluid and vibrant motions. I have seen mostly women dancing but recently discovered that men also belly dance, and that it is surprisingly enchanting to watch. Belly dance costumes remind me of butterflies...a myriad of colors and patters exist but the basic structure is similar enough that you recognize a belly dancer instantly.
This is my fursona and represents not only my inner animal spirit, but my love for belly dancing and also my love of red roses (they are my favorite flower). I wanted to incorperate several things that I thought symbolized me but in order to keep it simple, I went only with the roses and the sun in this picture.
I will more than likely be doing more pictures like this, of belly dancers, with different costumes and colors and symbols. The model for this (and probably most of my future pieces like it) is Rachel Brice, a woman well known for her dancing and costumes, and also for having really really good poses in pictures!
Size is 7" x 11", done with colored pencils, watercolor pencils for the background, and a gold swarovski crystal added for just a little sparkle.
