I wanted to avoid time travel since it usually is more trouble than it's worth. I was inspired with his powers by Illyria from Angel, so he can slow time and stop it within an area of effect without being affected himself. By contrast, however, his powers are much stronger than the other Talwyn masters for reasons elaborated upon in the later mythology.
Despite this, he cannot reverse nor travel backwards in time, which is a major plot point and a motivation for what he is doing in the current timeline.
