Yeah , well, don't matter much where I came from. Can't make me head back there so who cares? Anyways, there was only really one thing I was much good for, for the most part, just sort of like, you know, potions and acids mostly. More on the acids side, really. Did it back home then took it on the road. You know how it goes. It was actually a pretty nice life, you know? I had a wagon, a cauldron, and a couple barrels I kept my food in. It was pretty simple, too. Roll up to a town, camp out by the edges or maybe if they had a nice marketplace, yeah, just roll in, open up shop, the nobles'll buy some fancier stuff, you might be able to get some cheaper stuff for the middle class. Couldn't do nothin for the commoners, shame, but they didn't have the money to go around.
Mostly did the business at night, then in the morning turned the cauldron out and slept inside it. Once I started getting a bit more than it took to survive, I'll admit I started sleeping with the coin. Sort of a bit of envy, really. I mean why not? Nobody's gonna see it, and I wanted to feel more like a dragon. Anyways, not too much longer after this started, some other stuff started too. Sorta, you know, got some magic going on. Not big, fancy magic like a sorcerer, and not that holy shit like a cleric or whatever, but more, I guess, insidious? It didn't really kill people, no, but could just mess up lives. Put people to sleep, blind them, deafen them, implant suggestions, shrink people, conjure fear, or curse them in other, subtler ways. Naturally, I was ecstatic. Wasn't very good for my reputation, but that's why my business is on wheels. Get run out of one town, maybe curse someone who follows me, head on to the next one.
I don't know if the gold is the source itself of the power, or just some sort of conduit to the source, but either way, it needed to be nurtured. When I got more treasure, I got more magic. I don't understand if it just lets me get the magic from someone else, like some benign, unknown or unknowing patron, or maybe it was like a reflector, just sort of, letting me access what I was always supposed to? Whatever. All that matters is, I'm going to get more of both, and now I have a second thing I'm good at. "
