"We did it!" "WE WON!!"
Congratulations, Zootopia! Congratulations on your well-deserved win at the Academy Awards yesterday!
I did rush this pic a little bit because I was trying to get it done by midnight yesterday, and then stuff happened and I could only finish it until right now. So if things look a little off that's why, and the background is a big blah, but whatever- THAT'S NOT THE IMPORTANT THING! The important thing here is to acknowledge that the best animated movie of last year got the prize it rightfully earned. :D

Damn right it won! It's only real competition was Moana and Kubo and the Two Strings.
Not even Pixar's mediocre Finding Dory was nominated.
Disney is now the quality movie maker...so it seems. Pixar might get back on their A game sometime again.
For us furs and anthro artists Zootopia's many wins is a victory for us. And this pic does it job well to commemorate that win!

It's the wild card movie of the company, as Disney openly stated that had more faith in princess films like Moana than something that broke their mold. Also considering that it talked/mentioned things you never mention in kid films (racism/sexism/addressing stereotypes/political stuff/ect) to begin with, in a way that doesn't polarize one side or another (aka everyone is guilty of being an idiot/ect), as it came off as not preachy and more "telling the truth". Also it rejuvenated the anthropomorphic theme that was left in a coma since late 90's/early 2000's and forgotten by Disney when teeny bopper music sitcoms and princesses became popular again.
Kubo is fine and a good movie, but Kubo had issues that i noticed after wacthing it 5 times honestly.

Didn't the Sneetches cartoon had a subtle messages on prejudice? Anyways, I can understand from a message standpoint. But if I was to be honest, it kinda was being more heavy-focused (or preachy) at the last 30 minutes which kinda felt superfluous. Call me parroting on the Hotdiggedydemon Brain Dump video, but I can agree that it was the weakest way of expressing prejudice on a children's movie.
I honestly prefer Kubo because of how outstanding I thought the technical aspects went into it, and that the animation was wonderfully done through the mix with it's stop-motion-CG hybrid
And yes it's flawed, I can acknowledge that. But in my personal opinion I feel that it surpasses Zootopia in some ways.

While that is understandable, imma agree to disagree with you on this, mostly because Kubo isn't my cup of tea honestly (Box Trolls was more for me) and that trailers for the movie did not give Kubo justice (only two were shown and they only showed the funny parts)
Well, I went into it in a little bit more detail on a comment below, but yeah it's not like it matters- the real reward is the movie itself. Though as much as I love Kubo, I still think Zootopia is the better movie by far.
And compared to Moana, Moana is just another Disney princess movie- a really good one, but it doesn't really do anything that is that much different compared to other Disney movies from the past- like The Little Mermaid or Mulan. It's for this same reason- while I really love Kubo and the Two Strings and would recommend people to see it- that I don't think Kubo deserved it. I'd say it's just a little overrated, but it's still really solid.

Did they ever?
The Oscars is just a symptom of a much a bigger problem (award shows in general), so it's not like it matters- they're the definitive example of "you can't make everyone happy". But if they're going to keep these award shows going I'm going to keep watching them, making fun of them, and then forgetting about them in about a week. But if they're going to do anything right is to at least validate my opinion, so if you ask me about whether or not they made the right choice will obviously depend on what I thought about the winners in the first place (Like Moonlight winning Best Picture over La La Land, which I think it rightfully deserved).
That's just my long rambly way of saying "yeah, Zootopia got it because it was simply the best candidate".
