Yes, it was indeed a pun, good catch. "Flipping someone the bird" means to extend your middle finger to someone, which in American culture is a gesture that signifies to someone to fuck off. That is why such a gesture is censored on American public TV. And now know and knowing is half the battle.
Ok, I was already aware of the expression's meaning, but what I actually failed to grasp was how this image LITERALLY flips the bird. For instance, If it included someone rubbing tanning oil on her feathers and she flipped herself around to get her back rubbed with the oil, I would see how the pun applies. Could you please tell me how in this image's case, there's any "flipping" involved? Thanks for your time =)
Hm, Zwitterkitsune;s reply just below your last reply reflects how i thought the pun would work, but no worries; I think a sentence that would work better with the pun is "did you just give your viewers the bird?" (I also recall an couple of animaniacs cartoon where the trio had a poultry, and when the villain told them "give me the bird", they replied "we can't / we'd love to, but the censors won;t let us!" ; Anyway, have a good day / night =)
