That must've been an amazing experience, meeting one of The Founders like that. ...I would've totally asked for a handshake and possibly an autograph on my Kite shield. On the inside, of course, so it wouldn't get ruined from all the bangs the shield gets (that, and I prefer to Two-Stick it, so my shield would be the best choice as the autograph would last longer. Of course, he probably isn't into signing autographs, but at least I could say I asked).

I'd ask that the autograph on the shield be applied with a good windup and a two handed weapon so I'd be able to say "And this gouge here, it's from the Gandalf Dragon of the SCA."

Maybe, but it wouldn't be recognizable to anyone but me and that kind've negates the reasoning for getting an autograph. It'd be a cool story to tell, certainly, and make for an excellent addition to the autograph, but I'd still like to have an actual signature. Hell, if I had an old shield I don't use anymore, I could have him hit that thing like a pissed off Postal worker at batting practice then sign the resulting dent. I could hang that sucker on the wall of my bedroom. But unfortunately I don't have anything like that right now (not to mention the chances of me ever going to an official event are between slim and none, and slim just took the last train out of town. That, and I'm not really in the SCA anymore, so all my gear is long gone.)
