me and a friend started watching a netflix show called legend quest! it has a lot of really cute monster designs, including this fella. hes one of the main characters, based off of alebrije sculptures (albeit extremely simplified because animating all that detail would be hellish)

i love your Alebrije he is super colorful and festive looking! tbh netflix alebrije looks better for me and more dynamic than the movies one, but this one is super cute uvu
Man i really hope the series is like?? idk much better than the movies that came out first, They are made by Anima studios, well known mexican studio, ( i would say it is an indie studio, but its hanging from Televisa a big channel here well known for being involved by government and weird stuff) there's a lot of fishy stuff surrounding that studio including workers not being well paid, reusing animation frames from other shows, slipping classist/racist/sexist slang in their movies. TBH in original language its kinda a cringe show, maybe they changed things when they translated to englis. They are definitely kids movies, but there are some jokes that are puns for adult stuff and some of them are just... really sexist or things like that i remember in one movie the?? old ghost dude ( i don't remember his name) falls in love with a gal that is " ugly looking" ( crooked nose, upper lip body hair) and everyone treats her like some sort of joke and even call him " sir" a couple times and im like ?? really??? i haven't watched most of their movies but yeah i really REALLY hope they cut that shit out when they got the series on netflix, because im all in mexican animation studios telling about our legends and mythos and our culture, but we can do that and offer kids and people in general a better storytelling... without all that stuff that hurts a lot of ppl ya know?
ooh yea, i had peeked into things out of curiosity and saw the original movies, theyre kind of... iffy for a lot of those reasons you said
uhh but as for the netflix show! theres not really any of that sort of humor? idunno if i would call it outright "wholesome" bc it can be pretty dark on its own given the story, but it doesnt have the same classist, racist, sexist type shit the originals did :0 it gives me hope that this new version gets a second season and can keep going. the animation is a bit uhh, idunno if stiff is the right word, but they Definitely put their budget into the minute long opening sequence haha. maybe if it gets picked up more they can get more budget into animation!

HAHA YEAH in fact my roomie and i were like " oh wow the intro looks good maybe they improved the animation" but nope just the intro haha, tbh anima studios cartoons/movies have always been a little stiff, i really really hope they get more budget or try other styles from other artists too ya know? most of the series and movies they have done the characters have always.. you know that style, is like disney with their obsession for glen keane or smth. I guess the movies got popular in our country because there are local jokes and slangs and i mean why not i would also get excited if i was a kid and i saw a cartoon character speaking my lingo n stuff so yeah, i really really hope all these international reviews tell em something and i hope more people get interested in mexican culture too :0
