Jodie is a pig. Well alright, you martians might use the term ‘neo-pig’ but out here on the Rim it don’t matter what you’re suited in, every one of us is looking back to what we were. And what Jodie was, was a pig. Plain and simple. Uplifted, of course. Most of her brothers and sisters never made it out of their vats, those that did were subjected to cruel and unusual experiments and training regimes. Most died, and the creatures that survived? Well we’re not entirely sure what they are.
Most uplifts were designed to be as human as possible. Jodie and her brothers and sisters? They don’t understand the meaning of humanity. All they know is blood, or at least that’s how the stories go.
Our intel in Cognite, the hypercorp that made her, suggests that she used what little money she earned at first to buy a fork of her batchmate, a sister called Cassie, which she uses to this day as her MUSE. Must be a hell of a thing, carrying the ghost of a failed experiment in your head. But far as we can tell Cassie is the only part of Jodie that can understand, that can process, human society. Her MUSE tells her where to be, what to wear and what to say.
As for Jodie? She spent the last few years carrying out contracts for Cognite, buying her freedom one mission after another. Cognite holds its cards close to its chest but we know they used Jodie in their kill-squads and clean-up crews. She made a name for herself with her sniper rifle and her single-minded determination in the hunt. Now she’s free and looking for a chance to settle down, live a life free of bloodshed. Fat chance, right?
