I used the freeware 3D rendering software POV-Ray and a glass rabbit candle holder I had handy to practice using blobs to make more organic objects a few years ago. I've long since lost the code I used or I would have rendered this larger and updated it a little, but I still think it's cute.

Thanks! :D I haven't rendered anything in ages; this is the closest thing to "fur" that I've rendered in the past. In code, it was made with only spherical and cylindrical blobs . I'm thinking of attempting my fursona, but the furrier characters are probably out of my grasp.
Try out POV-Ray at http://www.povray.com . There are some freeware modellers available for it if you're more comfortable with WYSIWYG software, as well as plug-ins for generating tough things like trees, grass, etc.
