Hello Dutchies!
I know this is a long post, but we want you all to read it entirely, as it is very important.
Recently it has become somewhat of an issue within our community that people are creating "inspired" designs of copyrighted characters, when they are really just carbon copies. We have seen this upset quite a few members, as it can quickly flood the group with carbon-copies. Now, we're not saying it's bad to create a character based on a pre-existing character, but there seems to be some confusion between what is "inspired" and what is "copying" and what exactly is okay or not.
Technically when Dutch Angel Dragons regenerate they can change their entire design to mimic something they find interesting, which can include that super hero they saw on a TV. But remember that these are fictional creatures that you are creating and designing, and copying the character directly onto another species can be considered copyright infringement, which is theft. Legally the company can get you in trouble for stealing a character that belongs to them, however unlikely, it still is a possibility.
So, with this becoming a recent issue, we wanted to point a few things out for you guys. First and foremost, we strongly advise against making carbon-copies. In simple: Don't do it. Not only are quite a few people upset about this, but it can lead to some issues with other people in the group, as well as the aforementioned legal issues. If you decide to make a carbon-copy, and someone else does the same, we will not be able to help you in a dispute. This is your choice, and you are doing so while being aware of the consequences.
On that note, there is a difference between "inspired" and "Carbon-copied", a carbon-copy is putting the design of another character on to a new species/character with little to no changes, an inspired character can have some similarities but is mostly unique enough to be considered its own character. If we need to distinguish between the two the admin team will be looking for a "60%" difference from the source material to be considered inspired, and not copied.
We are not outright banning Carbon-Copied Dutch Angel Dragons from the group, as so many have already been made. But if in spite of this information you still decide to make one, or continue to have one, please be aware you are agreeing to the following:
*No Carbon-Copies will be approved for registration or certification. All Inspired characters will have to be at the very least 60% different.
*You are giving up any actual rights of ownership of the character, you can not claim it to be completely yours, as the design rightfully belongs to the company who made the character.
*You understand that there is a full possibility that someone else will make something very similar to yours, and you cannot claim you had the idea first. We cannot and will not help you if you claim they stole your character.
*You understand that there are potential legal and copyright issues that you will run into inside and outside the group, the admin team will not back you up in such disputes.
*You understand that your character will not be recognized as an 'official' Dutch Angel Dragon, and that the character is purely for fun.
Below is a diagram I have made to help people out in distinguishing the two terms "inspired" and "carbon-copied". We want everyone in this community to be as unique and creative as they possibly can (and we know all of you are capable of that! <3).
We will answer any questions regarding this guideline below, But if you are wondering if your character is too close to its source material, please do not post it below, please PM an admin your reference and a picture the character is based off of.

I think this is a well put together concept, such as the idea of "Copyright Beware" to individuals. I know myself, I'm having to be careful w/a Snow Leopard character I've made for the purpose of Cosplay based off the Disney character "Elsa" from "Frozen". While making it, I'm trying to not make her too much like the character. The only thing that is close to her is going to be the Hairstyle on her, but everything else is a mix of Snow Leopard/Cloud Leopard/possible Saber tooth (long story XD)
But its a tricky place to work with when wanting to create a character that's based off a character we admire or like. Especially in the case of the Copyright PSA using the popularized Blizzard Game "Overwatch"
