"My God! It's full of stars!"
I guess I could mention that with this painting, you've shown your expertise at creating emtion filled, expressive artwork, as well as an undoubted ability to pull off extreme close up shots and a stunning use of colour and fine deatil painting...
Oh look, I just did. ^__^

(BTW, did you by any chance use a Hubble space telescope photo as reference for the magnificently painted star cluster that is refelcted in the subject's eyes? It just seems a tad familiar to me is all. ^__^
Yes, I'm a bit of an astronomy geek, so sue me. :) )

Yes, I did look at a TON of ref pics. I couldn't hope to make up something that looked even passable. But I believe it ended up being a mix of several, and then a few additions of my own. I don't like to ref just one pic, rather, get a feel from several and try my own thing.
I've often found that extreme closeups like this can take a lot longer than half or full body images because of the level of believable detail properly scaled for the subject. You can get rather absorbed in rendering pores or fine hair such as you've done here. Eyes also take quite a bit of time to get just right, especially when you're as close as this. Very well done on all those details. It looks quite beautiful.
