WIP: Here is just one picture of how I cut the angles on the slide. This wasn't just a fit together job, it's hella custom. =P The fixture the slide is attached to is also something I machined: an aluminum block with a steel insert for holding a slide. I also made another insert (that I designed) just so I could hold the frame for similar cuts.
A custom double-stack 1911, chambered in .45 auto, I recently finished building. I didn't make any of the parts from scratch, but everything has been modified and custom fit. The top cuts on the slide were done by me, as well as cuts to the front of the receiver. I didn't keep count, but I probably put 60-80 hours of work into it.
Paint and blueing was also done by me.
Check out my twitter for more pictures of this and two other 1911's I'm building!

Neat!
Nice fixturing. Nothing like spending ten hours making a jig for a 5 minute cut. Never gonna use it again, but you just can't throw them away, haha
On the subject of doublestack 1911s, I've thought hard about doing an STI 2011 as the grip frames are cheap and separate, so the frame is all relatively easy milling machine work. Hundred dollar mags (and a billion other projects) keeps me from doing it though.
