ALTERNATIVE VERSIONI couldn't think of a title and I've been listening to the track Warlord from Killer Instinct lately and figured it would fit!
So you might be wondering how come Kuno's got Diablo-style angel wings. Well, why don't you stay a while and listen and I'll tell you. See what I did there?
When designing Kuno I went through lots of iterations and changes. He was originally supposed to be a bit more of a feral creature along the lines of something along the lines of a raptor or T-rex sort of dragony thing. I considered letting him have lots of different features, including viper fangs and a orca-style tail. However none of those stuck.
One of the things I did end up keeping was his back marking. I felt his back was just one big empty space so I should fill it with something and that red marking he has on his back was originally based on the angel wings from Diablo. After a while I started thinking: Hey, wouldn't it be cool if he could actually sprout wings like that?
That's that pretty much, just an afterthought. No epic backstory of Kuno being a half-angel, being born with the mark and ability or that it was infused upon him after discovering some ancient artifact or something. Nope. Just "Hey that would be cool". Kinda' strange I know but it is what it is.
TL;DR: Yes I did base those wings off of Diablo.

Funny you should mention that. I had compiled a bunch of images for the artist that drew my armor reference to draw inspiration from to create something that would look a lot more "standard" than this does. Just as he was starting the art stream and I had to go to work I send him a picture of the Guild Wars 2 Charr tier 3 cultural plate armor saying it was a last minute addition to the ref since it shows off another good way to do the helmet.
When I come back he had forgotten about the other images I had compiled and had based it all off of the one picture of the Charr armor. Needless to say it's not what I had in mind at all from the start but I didn't want to make him redraw everything and I kind of like the way it turned out.
