I'm not sure I understand what the issue is. Misty walked in on Cot wanking off. Yeah, he had her bra on his head, but she couldn't know he was thinking of her. He wasn't moaning her name or anything. Why is she angry at Lyle just for Cot wanking? Is it because it was at her house? If I walked into someone wanking off, I'd back away and shut the door. I can see her being embarrassed, but not angry. I don't get it.
I get where she's coming from, but how dare she tell him that he's not a parent "obviously". I have 4 nephews and a niece that I take care of entirely due t the fact that the father only wants anything to do with them when he wants something and a mother that's so burnt out on them that she doesn't even attempt to parent them at all. I can see myself in his situation we do our absolute best as the uncle to try and teach morals and understanding to these kids because nobody else at all will. She's blaming Lyle for the fact that this kid did something despicable as if it was his influence that caused the kid to do it.
More importantly let's say that he does go back to his sister and tell her to take more interest in the kid's life. Even if e gets through to her it's going to last what... a week? Leopards don't change their spots and the only difference is that now this kid doesn't have ANY parental figure to lean on. I'm sorry, Misty, but maybe the one person in the room that has never had kids at all shouldn't be trying to give parental advice to someone that's been trying their absolute hardest to be any level of role model to a child. Yes, the kid messed up. Yes, he shouldn't have done that at all because it's absolutely appalling. Yes, I understand where she's angry, but she should let Lyle deal with it, not get on his case and tell him that he's not a parent because a teenage boy did something that a teenage boy would do. She doesn't have to like the kid, that's understandable, and Lyle likely won't ask her to watch him again because of this, but how dare she lecture Lyle and tell him that he's not a parent as if it was his influence that caused this to happen. Fuck her. If it wasn't for him showing interest in the kid then he'd likely be on the street right now pushing drugs for pocket money and knocking over corner stores.
Yeah, this hits a little close to home because I relate to Lyle's situation.

I have to agree to a certain extent. I've actually sympathized with Misty when she's been roped into situations by her *cough* friends who seem to enjoy putting her in situations that for an introvert (which she obviously is) would be embarrassing, while they themselves engage in all manner of irresponsible behavior (particularly when it comes to sex) with no apparent repercussions whatsoever. It's like Misty is the subject of a constant tirade of introvert-shaming.
But here, I can't sympathize with her nearly as much. She was right that Lyle needs to stop letting his sister and brother-in-law treat their kids like raising them is something they don't have to bother with. But to get angry at -Lyle-, who's at least been making the effort to be some form of parental figure, is unfair. And insinuating he's not fit to be a good influence on them is really twisting the knife. Yes, she caught Cot doing something embarrassing. He needs to be told that some kinds of...behavior aren't appropriate for a certain time and place. But she shouldn't be acting like she just caught him pocketing her jewelry or going through her underwear drawer. I mean, he was helping her do the laundry; didn't it occur to her he was likely to come across some of her undergarments? No doubt she didn't expect him to do THAT, but still.
The point being she's overreacted somewhat and she's taking out her frustration on somebody who wasn't to blame for what is, in all honesty, just an instance of bad circumstances.

yeah, this comic used to be fun, but now it's just consistently, "Misty is still sad about her boyfriend's death from YEARS AGO, but her BBW friends are here to force her into antics and shenanigans." I'm just waiting for the comic where either she finally wakes up one day and decides. "His death sucks, but I'm not going to let it take over my life anymore" or her friends finally say, "You've been depressed about this for years. You're not fun to hang out with anymore, we're out. I know it sucks that he's gone, but you need to move on and get over it."
Honestly, I don't understand why her and Lyle are friends at all. She didn't even like Lyle when her boyfriend was alive because he was shallow, rude, and direct about his admittedly douche bag opinions, but why are they now friends? He hasn't changed all that much other than letting himself go out with a woman that he probably wasn't all that interested in at the comic's start. Just seems like as the other characters become more like-able the Misty becomes less because she can't escape this one event that happened to someone else and effected her only on an emotional level. Love the comic, but maybe it's time for some character growth.... maybe... a little bit?

This is one of the problems with updating the comic on a weekly basis, and that is time stretches out longer for us than it does for the characters in the story. If one could read this in one go for the first time they might not think 'yeah, she's heartbroken, we get it. Can we move on now?'
Not to say too much about what's going to happen down the road, but change is coming. It's all written out. Apart from minor tweaks to the writing, there are changes coming, but like in real life, these things take time, and to rush these changes would be a disservice to the story and people reading the comic.
But I hear what you're saying, man. I'm ready for Misty to move the fuck on as well. How do you think I feel? I have to write and draw the thing every week, and no one's more eager than I to see changes regarding her grief than I am. :)

You're doing an excellent job on the comic and I love reading it. You get props for keeping it going this long. Heck, I would have probably got bored and quite after the 5th one. lol. I only started reading your comic probably a half year ago where I read through the entire thing at once time. I guess it's just sort of assumed that between story points there are long periods (weeks to a month) of nothing happening of note, and then the story cuts back to her narrative when an event is starting up that's worth telling a story about. I guess the question that's lingering is.. how long has it been since whats-his-face got in that car accident? If it's been more than a month in world then maybe it's time for her to at least go out into the world and look for a job. For real, what does she do for a living?
Admittedly I didn't know that MASH actually lasted that long. Good information. See, I knew that she had a job somewhere. I do remember now that she works at a flower shop, thanks for reminding me. I'm not professional on grief, just someone that experienced it a lot from a young age, but in my personal opinion I think that a year is maybe a little long to still be grieving. Again that's just my personal experience. 5 Stages and all. You probably have scripts planned out well in advance up to weeks if not months, so keep writing and drawing your comic. There's no reason to advance her as of yet if you don't want to. Don't let me pressure you into things. I enjoy the content regardless.
Oh, come on. Give Lyle some credit. He may be a bit irresponsible, but I doubt he'd rob stores and shoot up drugs. It doesn't seem that much in his character. Maybe getting drunk more often than not would be more likely.
Regarding your 'fuck her' comment. I have to admit, that made me laugh. :) My other reaction is, 'Well, apparently, someone needs to.'
Anyway, keep reading. The next few pages should be interesting.

You misunderstood what I was saying. I'm saying that if Lyle didn't show interest in Cot and trying to parent him in his sister's absence then likely COT would be pushing drugs and knocking over corner stores. An exaggeration to indicate that Cot would likely be up to no good if he didn't have someone showing interest in his upbringing. I don't think at all that Lyle would do those things. He's way too laid back, and robbing stores takes WAY too much effort. lol.
I said "fuck her" because her comments rang close to my own experience and it pissed me off.
I'll keep reading as long as you keep producing. Keep up the good work.

Well, I don't go much into my own personal life, but I hear ya. Me and my folks had to help raise my nephews as well, and it is frustrating, especially as a late teenager having to be stuck taking care of my little nephew when I'd rather be doing something else, like having a job. :)
We're a rare type, you and I. Family is most important, but keep in mind that we're not stuck doing anything. We choose to fill in these roles because we both know that they're important to be filled. You're nephews will grow to understand and appreciate it someday. You can discuss stuff with me anytime, parenting strategies, struggles with behavior, all the like. Just send me a note if you find yourself having trouble.
Well... no offense to Mr. Dutch, but I'm going to hating on Misty for awhile; not entirely since she's right to be outraged and I'll keep most of my thoughts to myself. I will say this: SHE doesn't know how to be a parent either, and it's not fair to pin it all on him either, she should've said "No" to him in the first place
I think Misty has gone too far with Lyle this time, especially when he genuinely feels bad about what happened and was trying to apologize to her. Maybe she should have just let him, listen to what he has to say then give him her two cents. It's not Cot's fault that he's a horny teenager with little parental guidance but at least he had the decency to lock the door. He does need to have a little talk though. It's rough growing up without one parent in your life and you're left to deal with the changes on your own. Misty should have been a little more understanding with that but then again she probably hasn't been around kids much.
Maybe Misty needs to see a counselor or move onto a new boyfriend....
