This was a project started with a concept, of a door hanger with a hole cut where you see the cowboy hat. I originally wanted a sitting position, where the viewer is seeing over the shoulder of the pony boy. The format was too long for this, and it caused some anguish, until I photographed the exact pose I wanted, and realized this for myself. The pose transformed in to a semi-lying down position, but the chest is distinctly UP of the base. Shin was kind enough to put up with all of my hassles and picky suggestions :)
The end result is a photograph background of some real hay, transformed with a filter in photoshop. Above that is shin's beautiful rendering of the pony, and above it all is the text and hat photograph to make it something that can be displayed in public. The hat itself was another photographic project of mine. I took my straw cowboy hat, placed it on the floor with a dog toy to prop it at the angle needed for the shadow across the center, and lit it with natural light from a window, filtered through a mini-blind. The hat had to look good for any other projects besides the door hanger, because it will not be a hole cut out of the image.
Thank you again, Shin, for your awesome work! I look forward to doing another one of these very soon :)
