their hubris leading to the final cost.

There's nothing to be afraid of, really. His name is Pibbles, and he's perfectly harmless...Just ask his last trainer. Or trainers. If you can find where they've vanished to. He just needs a new home. You wouldn't leave a little fellow like him alone in the woods, would you? He's so very far from a river. Funny, that, if you think about it.
