Safe? I would say no. Since trunks are not air tight, the chance of suffocating if very low, but the trunk was not designed with passenger safety in mind. An accident of any kind would cause much more harm to somebody in the trunk than it would in the cab.

She's right, a trunk is NOT air-tight, plus remember the front of the trunk is also the passenger compartment's back seat. The only inherent danger is if the exhaust system is leaking you DO run the rusk of carbon monoxide poisoning, which actually takes a while. If you're going to do this RL, make sure the exhaust system is sound and when in doubt, don't. In any case, keep the trip short, after 10-15 minutes pull over and check to be sure she's okay, and if not, release her and get her out. If she is and you're not there yet, keep going and check again on her down the road.
