So I realize that out of all my characters, Vaylute is the one I've kind of characterized least. He (or she, depending on a number of things) is a blushy, klutzy, guilt-ridden shark-fox, but those don't really define what I'd call a 'character'. They're traits, but not a personality. I guess that's because Vaylute reflects more timid aspects of myself that spawn from anxiety and insecurity, and those characteristics that go beyond that tend to reside in my other characters. Scarlett, who's brash and bombastic, eager for the spotlight and unafraid to speak her mind, even if it lands her in a heap of trouble. Adrian, who's a snarky and sarcastic scientist, analytic to the point where he comes off cold. Even Alice and Sinclair, newer characters of mine, have personalities that I feel could exist on their own with some level of originality and familiarity.
It's lead me to a point where I want to distinguish who Vaylute is, in a 'canon' sense. He's always been Scarlett's lackey, practically tugged by the leash to do her bidding, thanks to their past. It's a relationship that's been kind of flat and murky, but I think now, I'll expand upon it a little.
I think this look for Lut may be what I settle with in the near future (although there'll likely be some tweaks to his design and a redone reference sheet). He's the negotiator for Scarlett's crew -- a much more smooth-talking charmer whose quantum-instability is less a burden he silently shoulders, and more a hindrance that keeps him on his toes. Sure, he still works for the boss, Scarlett, and she's got a wealth of hold over him thanks to their past. Now, though, he's not just going to roll over and take it like a bitch. And yes, he's still going to be helpless to his physical alterations between Vaylute and his 'other' forms. But instead, he's going to be a crafty bastard and use it to his advantage. The essence of that blushy, clumsy male is still going to be there, but it's going to work in tandem with an actual character, and not just an excuse to exercise my more timid, submissive side.
Oh, and so people are clear, canon Vaylute/Lut is from the 20's and 30's, hence his attire. Same goes with Scarlett, Adrian, and the rest of my cast. I've got them in modern settings too, but the 'world' I tend to run them in is around the roaring twenties.
Lut is owned by me.
