Almost unable to believe the good fortune he had stumbled upon this night, Theo stood admiring his prize tenderly. But where had it come from? The question still troubled him - whenever he tried to think back to what he had read about golden eggs, the dragonboy's memory kept coming up short.
Looking around him pensively, Theo strained to recall the words. The misgivings which gnawed away at him, as a cold breeze from behind made him shiver slightly, came from something he had heard about an infamous horror found only in the dark heart of the forest, the area known as the Tall Trees. Hadn't that monstrosity used golden eggs to lure in its prey? The young dragon shivered again. But he was nowhere near that dark place now, surely... had he really come that far? It did seem awfully dark, the canopy high overhead...
All of a sudden, he felt a strange tickling at his feet. Something squirming in between his toes, wriggling like worms, strong, smooth, gripping...
Theo looked down abruptly, dropping the now-forgotten egg in shock and disbelief at what he saw. His fine long-clawed dragon feet completely wrapped in supple, prehensile vines, which, even as he watched, crept ever upwards at a frightening speed, feeling, probing, insinuating themselves around his bare legs...
Theo screamed.
