I was actually surprised just how many people I knew were saddened to hear of Gene's passing. He clearly was thought highly of by a lot of people in the furry fandom, and I don't know anyone whose ever had an unpleasant thing to say about him. My experience of losing somebody is that it's something that doesn't quite sink in until a bit later. Gene was a good guy.
This is all I know:
He did not update "Gene Catlow Presents" since last Monday. Many got concerned when he did not respond to emails and his strip was not updated on Wednesday.
A close friend of his then called the police to get a "wellness" check done last night. They found him dead. There appeared to be no foul play, and no evidence of suicide, and so was said to be natural causes. We will likely have to wait for the autopsy to determine the actual cause.
I suspect he may have died in his sleep on Sunday.

I too am curious about what happened, though he was pushing 60 and I suppose at that age onwards anything can happen. My comic partner who died last autumn died suddenly as well aged just 28 and we didn't know the exact cause for several days. But he was seriously obese and that contributed to it. I guess time will tell.
Thank you. A few years ago, a popular and well liked high school American footballer in Maryville TN went to sleep one Friday night and never woke up in the morning. An autopsy found it was a previously undetected heart condition. I now suspect that may be what happened to Gene
