This latest picture in my 'photo-op' series covers a variety of subjects from both the past and present - tying in all sorts of stuff, from "Star Trek" to comic books and conventions (with just a hint of a 'furry reference').
In case you don't recognize the gentleman to my right (your left), this is writer/author Peter David (who's been hard at work for almost a quarter of a century now). Among his various credits are a number of comic book stories, TV scripts and movie screenplays, as well as plenty of "Star Trek" novels (for you devoted 'Trekkies' who are just discovering the new 2009 movie version of the classic NBC series from the 1960s), not to mention his opinion column "But I Digress..." from Comic Buyer's Guide.
This photo of the two of us was taken at a sci-fi/fantasy convention in the early 1990s. (It was either PhilCon in Philadelphia, PA, or I-Con in Islip, NY. I'm leaning towards the latter event, since Peter lives on Long Island, anyway.) At said convention, I got him to autograph my copy of his 1989 'furry fantasy' entitled "Howling Mad" (the story of a Canadian timberwolf who gets bitten by a werewolf, and [every month] becomes human by the light of a full moon).
Here's the present-day connection: For those of you who have never met the 52-year-old writer, you have a golden opportunity to meet him in person, later this month, when Peter David becomes the Writer Guest of Honor at Oasis Con in Orlando, FL. (This photo from the past was posted on May 14, 2009, and the chance to meet him will take place from May 22-24, 2009.) If any of you plan to be in central Florida, and would like to see Mr. David, go to the following link for this sci-fi/fantasy con: http://www.oasfis.org/oasis/ (Needless to say, he doesn't look anything like this posted portrait from the past; just so you'll know.)
Meanwhile, to learn more about Mr. David and his expanding body of work, visit Wikipedia OR go to his website at http://www.PeterDavid.net

Most of the pins on said cap were comprised of animal characters from various Eclipse Comics of the 1980s - "Fusion", "The Dreamery", and "The Weasel Patrol" (the latter title of which is going to be reissued later this year). In addition, I have a few pins - from Thoughts & Images - pertaining to characters from Steve Gallacci's comic book series "Albedo: Anthropomorphics".
Since then, my pin collection has included lots of Disney characters and Olympic mascots!
