I see the term "edgy" a lot in reference to anything that is drawn with a darker tone as if it is something negative, people you need to realize that darkness is a legitimate place to pull inspiration from. Life sucks and most kids who start drawing seriously start in their teenage years when life is extra confusing and frustrating. They draw their first characters with dark color schemed we have all seen thousands of times involving red/ green/ and or black. Their stories they make for them are dark and not that well polished yes i understand that, bringing it to their attention and providing a well though out critique is wonderful to help them improve. Telling them that their character is "edgy", "autistic", "shitty", or anything of the like is not

Attacking a beginner for pulling artistic inspiration from their most dominant emotion is not the way to go.

Further more just because a character is written dark or drawn with dark tones does not automatically make them bad, you can have well thought out edgy characters with true flaws and ambitions beyond their design. For instance my best friend has a character that uses the color schemes of white, with black and green and red accents and he looks rather "edgy" on the surface but in reality he is a tattoo artist with a passion for rock and roll music. Does this make his design bad? Absolutely not! It fits his personality rather well.

Also my character Brainiac I am sure you have seen him at this point, maybe looking at him even now.. he is purple with black messy hair and red eyes. Why did i choose this color scheme? Many reasons such as purple being the color that represents intelligence, black representing mystery and misery, red representing passion and with his sassy yet dark Dr.House like personality this fits him really well. It also fits my gothic based art style very well and makes his design simple enough to adapt. Does this make him bad? No if you read my character profile for Brainy you will see he is a very fleshed out character i have worked on for years. So please don't knock someones character based on design the dark design has been in everything for years and just because you think its played out doesn't mean others don't still enjoy it. Let people enjoy things.

Besides drawing edgy thinks sometimes helps relieve stress i know it does for me.

And p.s. as someone with autism I hate it when people use the term to bully others because they may have it too and its not fair to he put down over something you can't control
