Yeaaaaap it's when they leave food out for their dead I believe and they think the spirits come to eat it. Honestly I've just been obsessed with sugar skulls ever since I was like 9 B)

They're really pretty I just thought it was weird seeing them all over bc they're more or less a religious symbol so I wasn't sure why everyone was recontextualizing them for other things. It was fucked up when like big corporations started like mass producing stuff w them though

Idk I always wanna err on the side of being respectful of cultural & religious icons bc I know a lot of religious ppl and idk like a lot of western christianity has really bad manifestations but I always feel like that's kind of foisted onto other religions that are like more self-critical. I think mass producing things is sometimes just from capitalism being kind of an evil heartless system lmfao. That's why I always got grossed out seeing like stuff like that on like shitty dollar store knick knacks and shit...feels disrespectful bc I know this stuff can be important to a lot of people lol
