So, uuuuh... don't Summoners lose a part of their life force every time they use their powers? Would he really so nonchalantly shorten his life just to check out a ship a little ways off that he could've done with a spyglass anyways?

Summoning the spirits in force takes some of the Summoners own life energy - the rest is just regular spirit magic.

I like how the water wings are fading as the Ice mark comes into life.
Fading being a horrible word for it, but I'm too tired to think.
