More experimenting with markers.
Did something a little different and decided to fill in the background. I kind of like the marker lines.
Materials: large moleskine sketchbook, micron pens, and prismacolor markers.
Refined the initial sketch on my Cintiq, printed it out then used carbon graphite paper to laboriously transfer the image into my Moleskine sketchbook.

I'm drawing a horse right now, and I'm always so impressed with your rendering of them (and the caribou too) It is so hard to get the angles and proportions down, but it seems you do it on point all the time :D
I'm enjoying seeing your marker pieces, this is quite pleasing to look at, I also want to echo on how much this gives the impression of being drawn on wood and the effect works wonderfully. :)

Love the woodgrain effect of the lines - but man, you are really picking up on markers fast. :) I really like this one - it's just soft and pleasant and I love the shading in the shadows/ touch of blue.
(Also. I am coveting your table and coasters. They would look very nice in my house. *grin*)

Thanks so much! I’ve had those coasters for a good ten years now. They have a cave horse from the Lascaux cave on them. When I got my furniture, I got it to match THEM.

I just have a question about these moleskin sketchbooks :3 do you find that the markers leak through onto the back of the paper at all or is the paper thick enough to do colour front and back on the pages! As ive always found with some of my sketchbooks that the colour runs onto the back,
Also how did you transfer your sketch from your cintiq onto the sketchbook pages~? :D
your marker pieces are simply lovely :3 <333

Unfortunately the color does leak through the back of the page with the markers. I like how the marker feel on the moleskine paper though so I just skip every other page. I’ve heard from some people that Bristol paper is nice and would like to give that a try.
I describe my method of image transfer in the description too, if you still have questions about it I’d be happy to try and answer them but check that out first. I don’t know if there is a better way but that’s how I’ve been doing it. Sure would like to find an easier method if I could, a lot of the fine detail gets lost in the transfer and it takes forever.

ah, i've yet to find a paper thick enough that doesnt let the markers bleed through, not in sketchbooks anyway, single sheets or pads of paper ive found a few which one bleed. So unless we make our own sketchbooks i doubt we'd find suitable ones! I use a thick cardstock which works ok, but still bleeds a little. It doesnt matter for general commissions and is pretty cheap to get.
I just saw the carbon paper :P its been so long since i used anything like that i completely forgot about it! I never got on with the stuff, hence i use a lightbox, but i guess you cant use that for a sketchbook page!
thanks for answering the questions ;3 <333 always nice to know how people work!

Yup, it is the larger Cintiq, I’ve had it about 5 years now and I love, love, LOVE it. Definitely worth every penny. And I loved the Serendipity books as a child, they were much cherished and I still have them on my bookshelf. Those books have had a great impact on my art too. And having my work compared to them is definitely an honor, thanks!
