South American herb tea, healthful and quite bitter. I made all sorts of funny faces. Many people keep a mug of this tea handy on-the-go, adding hot water from a thermos bottle, sipping from the silver straw/strainer.

In my experience it is a lot less bitter if you do not over brew it. Let the water cool for about a minute or two after boiling and then steep for only around 2 to 3 minutes tops. I know they drink it piping hot down in SA but they also get mouth cancer because of that. It tastes rather good the other way, you do not drink Tanins, and it has a sort of soothing oily quality for your throat. Add some honey or sweetener and it gets downright pleasant.
