According to the Denver Butterfly Pavilion, March 11th, 2017 was World Spider Day! So I spent most of Saturday drawing this to celebrate. Here I am holding a Goliath Birdeater, a type of tarantula native to the Amazon.
(irl I ended up going to the Butterfly Pavilion on the day after Spider Day with
troj and got the chance to hold a Chilean rose-haired tarantula, which was pretty cool. I'm excited to go back to the Pavilion sometime soon with another friend.)
While a lot of my friends and family are pretty major arachnophobes, I didn't end up with that particular fear, I guess. Oh, I have a healthy fear of poisonous spiders--black widows, for example, give me the serious creeps--but I find most spiders to be super cute. Tarantulas are so fuzzy! I just want to give them a hug! :D
[Nota bene: ...It is not a good idea to actually hug a spider.]

Spider day is a thing!? Dang it, if I had known I would have drawn my fursona! (spider and cat hybrids count in this case, yes?) What a wonderful time it would have been to actually draw her more! Unfortunately, she is mixed with a black widow, but not actually venomous! Instead of that gnarly poison that kills you without treatment, it just makes you sleepy and stiffen up. So a tame black widow, I assume.
On another note, cute picture by the way! Sloths are amazing, and when I visited Peru for a few weeks I got to hold a baby three toed sloth! AAAA he was so coarse and adorable! Shame he thought I was a tree when he had to go tot he bathroom and I had to stand still for about 10 minuets while he did his weekly "business"

I didn't know spider day was a thing until this year! At least you'll be ready for next time. And, I'm sure spider hybrids totally count! Black widows do scare me because of their poison, but I'm glad your character isn't quite as deadly. :)
Thank you! Holding a baby sloth sounds like such an amazing experience... Even if it was a bit awkwardly timed uwu
Someday I want to go see sloths in the wild :'D

There is a sloth sancuary in Peru around where I was that allows tourists to come certain times a year to learn about sloths, as well as pet them and some residents to the local area can even volunteer to groom or clean up the sloths. Unfortunately, I was located along the amazon river when in Peru or in Lima/Iquitos, but if you can bear to get the shots, blood tests, and the tickets to visit, i recommend going and making sure you eat both blantain chips found in bars (in place of pretzles. Trust me, it's amazing, we make it here at home becuase it's so good), eating a dish called Juanez (chicken and rice cooked in banana leaves) and drinking anything/eating anything made with/of passionfruit. Best fruit and fruit drink juice I have ever had!
But also know if someone has a sloth that is not in a controled enviroment (such as a sancuary) do NOT give them or the sloth the time of day. Doing this encourages the locals to hunt down sloths and capture them to make tourist attractions and make money off of them, and with them having no training or care for animals (You'll understand when you walk the streets of a major city and see all the dogs starving and being hit by cars for sport) it will only hurt the sloth population.

Thanks for the good info!
Passionfruit is pretty awesome. They're called "lilikoi" in Hawaii, and every time my family is back in Hawaii to visit we gobble em the whole time xD
I was considering Costa Rica to see sloths but Peru sounds really cool, too. Someday, someday...
