A piece inspired by My Earth Dream by Edenbridge. You can listen to it on Youtube here.
The creature at the bottom is Dark, my original character. He is a member of a shadow-spirit race called jinbu. Jinbu are elemental beings and intimately connected to the Earth. They are sort of the guardians of the natural processes of things. I realized his features combined with putting him in space might make him look like an alien, but this is really not so.

Thank you c: And sort of... The meaning isn't quite so literal. He could be worried about the Earth, or he could be worried about us (humanity). Likewise, in the real world, the Earth is our responsibility. Also the lotus flower was chosen for its symbolism. So there are different ways it could all be interpreted.
I'm surprised no one has said anything about "Illusion of Gaia", a game that came out for the SNES around '94. It was made by Enix and was the second part of a spiritual action-adventure trilogy. The first game was called Soul Blazer, and the third game was called "Terranigma" but was never released in the states.
Here's a little heads up on the game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjfRlCW2JMQ
This picture reminds me of "Dark Space", the room you enter to switch characters and save your game. In Dark Space, you meet Gaia, spirit of the Earth, who looks shockingly similar to "Dark" here.
SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT!
Turns out that a comet is heading towards Earth. This comet contains an evil spirit that threatens to destroy the planet. Ironically enough, that spirit is known as "Dark Gaia", the evil counterpart of Gaia. I can't remember whether this was a twin of Gaia that was trapped inside the comet, or whether Gaia removed her evil from herself and banished it inside the comet, where it then festered and became Dark Gaia and then came back to Earth.
Either way, you had to pretty much ascend to a higher level of being in order to travel to the comet and defeat Dark Gaia before impact.
Illusion of Gaia Final Boss Battle - as recorded by "Artificial Raven"
END SPOILER ALERT! END SPOILER ALERT!
This pic is astonishingly beautiful and is going to be a favorite right away.
To compliment the "Illusion of Gaia" allegory, here's the two themes that were played in the Dark Space room before and after saving.
Illusion of Gaia OST Track 4 - Dark Space
Illusion of Gaia OST Track 44 - In the Earthen Womb
Listen to those while looking at this picture and the experience will be greatly heightened, I guarantee it!
If you can get your hands on a copy (I'm not sure if it's out on Wii Virtual Console yet), then GET IT! You'll thank me later.

Why thank you. I always feel that pics go very well with music.
Also surprised that someone actually found this old comment that I made... what... 5 months ago?! (Wow!)
I make it a point of watching people who respond to any comments I make, but apparently I'm already watching you. :)
