NEVER TALK TO ME OR MY SON EVER AGAIN.
My Budsies custom plush is here! Thought I would give it a try and see how they'd do with Chingado, he came out pretty cute!! They even made his pawpads. Really happy with the results for the price!
I sent Budsies a 3-vew reference drawing and kept it really simple. They interpret your artwork VERY literally, so keep things really basic and clear!
If you want to give Budsies a shot at a plush of your own character, you can get 10% off using my referral link/coupon code! Yay! Share what you get if you order one too! :D

hey out of curiosity did you opt for the "sneak peek" option? I loved the plush in comparison to the art you submitted! I had to order one myself! My only concern is I've seen really great plushes like the one you got, but I have also seen some that look pretty bad too -- and many with decent concept art. I'm not sure why there seems to be such a broad range in quality, if they're busy, or if it varies due to the people working on the manufacturing or what.
I'm just curious, if you had the option to request changes, and if you did, what kind of changes did you have done? Hope you don't mind me asking, just wondering! I hope mine turns out as awesome as yours did!

hi-
The extra option wasn't available when I ordered back in January. I don't think I would have paid for it though as I actually wanted to be surprised. I was absolutely expecting it to come out poorly but to be honest the bad ones crack me up so I was happy to pay for something potentially funny. I saw the one that Pink Lightning got and it inspired me to want to get one, lol
I did try designing the reference to be as simple as possible though, and spent a lot of time looking thru DA, instagram etc to see what other people ended up with. What I learned is the Budsies tailors take the references very, very literally - furry references are generally too challenging for them. I don't think its that they are bad at what they do, but I think they are asked for a lot more than they are capable of. There are only finite shades of brown fabric, etc - and it's a $90 plush! If it was me making it, $90 would cover only 2 hours of my time. They're really inexpensive because they are assembled in China and there is NO level of art direction outside of 'here is a drawing to follow.' I think they've added the revision add-on to sate furries and people submitting OCs, I feel there were a lot of remakes going on because furries just expect a heck of a lot.
With that said ... I'm happy with the result, I think it's cute - it's not perfect (he has weird short legs and the eyes are a little smaller than I wanted) but, again, $90. I collect art dolls and expect to pay $500+ for those, so my expectations are a little different for something that costs a fraction of what I am used to paying haha.
I think if you provide a simple, CLEAR reference (not a furry ref sheet) that is the literal shapes you are looking for, you'll have a better chance of winding up with something you like! But just keep that price point in mind. These dolls are pretty big at 16", it's a really good deal if you know what to expect :)
