Commission for
ShadowScreen. =)
Sorry for taking a little long to finish this pic. x_x The character did take about a week to finish drawing, due to the shading technique involved. However, that's nothing, compared to the background. A month wasted just trying to figure out how the background should turn out to be. See, Shadow actually requested for a lakeside scene. I haven't really used to draw such scenes yet... Since he paid extra for the background, I felt, what the heck, I'll just try drawing that damn background to the best of my abilities, using lots of Google references. I'm still not fully satisfied with the background, but at least I've tried my best, and I hope he doesn't mind.
Maybe I should start practice drawing more scenery after this. x_x
Regardless, it's the main subject -- Shadow Screen's dragon fursona in the foreground -- that's the most important. I must say, I'm really proud of how I shaded him. =) I've really placed much thought to the character's body, making sure it's as perfect as possible. It's one of the most complex shading attempts I've ever attempted so far, and I did it all in Flash, using lots and lots of radial fills.
I hope he'll like it. =)

I think the emphasis in this picture happened to go to the background. That I can tell you right now, as that happens to look waaaaaay too much like a postcard. [Meaning, you did it correctly.] Personally speaking, I happen to like that water effect. It's a gradient from what I can see, and then it happens to STILL have the refection of the trees and the mountain in the background. That..is rather impressive to me. It's scenic you know.
It's like one of those relaxing travel scenes that people put on television programs that talk about exotic places and mountain ranges. And that...tends to be appealing to me. [To which I'm sure makes me sound so.. SO very old..]
But that aside, I should probably speak on the foreground character too. I just happen to like landscape art too much [As you already know..] I mean, it looks like you spent a lot of time on it after all. It'd be rude to just go by it. Besides, I think it's calming and well executed. I'm simply not going to pretend I don't see it.
Going into the dragon up front..well.....rather shiny looking now isn't he? Not to say that's a down side. It's just you happen to have him looking.. well.. glossed. I suppose that's the phrase I'm looking for. But it's pleasant too look at, and so I won't say there's any faults with it here.

Well, as in the description, I wasn't really impressed with the background. x_x There are still so many things I could've done to improve the look of the background, but I was also pushing my vector-drawing abilities to its limit, and I've already wasted too much time with the commission. Regardless, I'm glad that everyone likes it, anyway.
I deliberately drew Shadow all glossy and the likes. XD Since this is a commissioned pic, I need to draw them even better than my normal drawings, because my clients' satisfaction is of the top priority. I also needed to keep practicing to draw with more details than usual.
Thank you for the comment. =)
