the Gods of ancient Japan are brother and sister the original religion of Japan was matriarchal Also Demons are separate negative beings no demon has as much power as a God, but all Demons can die. Ancestor worship coupled to nature with additional emphasis on Buddhism is also ancient Japan whose culture is derived to copy one ancient ancient China kingdom; the Western Wu before the first emperor destroyed all the 13 kingdoms to unify China.
This isn't Japan, This is Great Land, the aesthetics and culture are based on Japan though. Izanami and Izanagi, were the creators of many gods, and of men, but weren't the only gods either in Japanese Religion. :3 In this story, there are only two gods, at least from what WhiteMantis has told us so far.
The one thing that really stands out to me in this story, is that it has a very Feudal/Japanese vibe to it.
In which case, any house that has geisha, therefor will have maiko, elder sisters, and a Mama-san, who rules with absolute authority within the house.
Keeping in mind, the Mama-san is always promoted from a geisha with a strong reputation, and is trained assiduously by the Mama-san before her.
So if Asami's a hard-ass, it's because that's what is expected of her, and what's more than likely needed to keep customers, patrons, and staff alike in check and obedient.
But this seeming lucky stroke has her pretty psyched, and probably relieved that she isn't disgraced along with her house.
Here's hoping for good luck for Nae. She's gonna need it.

In the world of Blade Under Mask, there's two gods. Search through the Blade Under Mask illustrations and you'll find them soon enough. If you followed this comic for a while, you'd also have realised Nae has small statues with her, they represent these gods and she uses those statues as a way to pray to them.
