Our feet are the most basic rudamentary vehicles that move use forward through life. Many of us take for granted the saying, "one step in front of the other," but for many disabled people, the first step after a traumatic event is the begining of a new life. One that many live while feeling broken, worthless, unempowered, or weak to name a few negative self images that accompany drastic life change. From there forward each new step taken is a commitment to currage. A private promise to one's self to fight through the physical and enotional pain.
Life can change in an instant. Whether it be a one or a series of crippling car crashes leaving a once abled body mother severly battered, a work place injury leaving a young twenty two year old girl with a knee disorder, or a thirty year old transgender person fighting through mental illness. In these lives the effectiveness in daily life is impacted. Once simple tasks become obstacles.
Sadly, it is fate of many disabled people that their existance and that of their families are often over looked, or when noticed, percieved by others through judgemental eyes.
Untethered is a testement to the indomitable human spirit. This is for the down trodden, forgotten, discarded, homless, refugee, or misunderstood underdogs in society. Whether you are pushed aside due to race, gender, sexuality, health, or mental status; as long as you keep moving forward with hope you have succeeded where many have fallen and given up. Everyone has a story to tell, and our feet have carried us through it all.
This picture was inspired by a sister, and a mother who struggle throught their daily lives. They have taught me to never give up, and to never surrender my dreams. Thank you for teaching me how to hope.
