Another sketch from the stream.
warthog117 won and requested a Crimean Highlander, I think I prefer the historical stuff hoenstly. Pure fantasy/sci-fi is kinda bland in a weird way. Maybe just grounding these fantastical characters in history makes them more lively to me.

I... guess? I mean it really depends! :) I've seen some really awesome outfits here on FA. And honestly, a lot of fantasy and even sci-fi clothing takes inspiration from history and current fashion. There's a reason 80s/90s sci-fi was all colourful and had triangular or asymmetrical patterns and crazy hairstyles - those were exaggerations of the fashion back then. Just like nowadays, sci-fi tends to be a bit more mellow, tries to be more realistic, and generally uses mostly dark tones in their clothing. So yeah. :p
Real uniforms and the like have an authenticity to them that's hard to reproduce. Though certain time periods and cultures definitely have the advantage there like the Highlander up there (I really like his shoulder armor BTW) -and it's worth noting that in modern times and some sci-fi they're aiming for more realistic, which means tactical, which means no crazy getups that will get you snagged on a door or something retarded like that when you're trying to clear a room or wearing bright colors that will get your ass shot on the battlefield from 300 meters out. Camo is drab, but it's not meant to look pretty. That's almost the opposite of what it's supposed to do. Hence, yeah, it tends to be a lot more boring to look at. Can't argue with results though.
