We haven’t seen three Bulleid Pacifics on the Severn Valley before,
especially with one in Malachite Green! No. 34081 92 Squadron is fresh
out of the box following the completion of its overhaul at the Nene
Valley Railway, and joins fellow Battle of Britain No. 34053 Sir Keith
Park and West Country No. 34027 Taw Valley for the event. The triplet
of Bulleids comes 60 years after the end of Southern Steam in 1967
and is sure to conjure up memories of the famous Atlantic Coast
Expresses! Built in 1948, No. 34081 was named after the famous
spitfire squadron based at Biggin Hill during the Battle of Britain in
1940, and was eventually withdrawn from service in 1964 before
moving to Woodham’s Scrapyard in South Wales. 92 Squadron is the
only operational Bulleid Pacific currently in British Railways Malachite
Green, and is sure to turn more than a few heads in this striking livery!
