Winter is one of the best seasons to see bald eagles. These birds tend to stick around even in the bitter cold of the winter months near open bodies of water, such as rivers, oceans, and dams. Now in March, they are sitting on nests and will soon have hungry eaglets to feed.
This is an acrylic painting on a domestic turkey wing feather. I love these white feathers since with the dark brown mottling they look a bit similar to sub-adult bald eagle tail feathers! They are, however, simply (very legal) turkey feathers.
