Hearing Ellie sing this made me think of Copleand because she's generally in the same shoes. She wants to be a hero like her other friends, but the issue is that she isn't one.
Yes, all heroes are vigilantes, technically, but she's got the other issues like history as a criminal.
So it's bothersome because as much as she wants to be the good guy, she's still bad.
