Sacrifice
- Dear child, do not weep, do not cry,
- I freely give my life this morn,
- And though I must soon say goodbye,
- Do not look so forlorn,
- Today, a new chance for you is born,
- And if truly this day you must rue,
- Only briefly should you mourn,
- For I’d do it all again, and I’d do it just for you.
- Do not heave and do not sigh,
- I accept this fate without scorn,
- I am not the first for others to die,
- And with them my spirit will be borne,
- To answer the call of Valhalla’s horn,
- And in its halls, receive the warrior’s due,
- Though should I ever be reborn,
- I’d do it all again, and I’d do it just for you.
- As the light now fades from my eye,
- Know these wounds are proudly worn,
- And while my soul now must fly,
- In departing this realm weatherworn,
- I go fulfilling all I’ve sworn,
- For to my morals I’ve kept true,
- Though it’s brought me to death’s thorn,
- But I’d do it all again, and I’d do it just for you.
- Today, my body must be torn,
- And to save you, my life must be shorn,
- But there is not another life I’d live or thing I’d do,
- For I’d do it all again, and I’d do it just for you.

How would you feel if your child wandered off and died, and there was someone who could have easily saved them, but they chose not to for the (if I'm being honest) stupid reason that the child isn't theirs, If you're ever in a situation like this, I hope you can deal with the fact that you let a innocent child die from your laziness, just remember that you were the one who killed a kid through inaction, if I was in that situation, I would have done the same thing, since I hope that others would do the same for my child. Your reasoning of whose fault it is that the kid is there is irrelevant, they're there, and all you can do is either try to save them, or be the type of person who says do as I say, not as I do.
A soldier's, police officers, firefighters, and Coast Guard Service men and women's willingness to give their life to protect those that can not defend or protect themselves from those that would cause harm to them.
And I'm amazed that even if a soldier is in an active combat front, or they're out on patrol they will if they find or they're found by a stray dog, puppy, cat, or kitten/s. They will do everything against military regulation to sneak that stray back into the forward base of operation. And the soldier's love and compassion that they show towards that stray that stray will give back to the soldier by taking the form in the storm and chaos that is war. A lifeline for that soldier to grab onto and just forget about the horrors and stress of combat and just be a human again.

How come people in here crying n shit? It's a great piece, and nice poem. But really guys, you're not dying, and chances are you've never been put in any situation to "relate" to such thing. And said thing is FICTIONAL. Can you not tell the difference between reality and artwork? Grow up.
