"You can have the whole world going for you and you'll still feel like something is weighing you down. There's this shadow that plagues your mind and no amount of progress or success can chase it away. This is why you struggle to believe others when they encourage and compliment you; it's not that you don't trust them, it's that you don't trust yourself anymore. You're cursed. You feel as if your existence is nothing more than an accidental stain on the fabric of time. Some days you don't feel like a mistake, and that's simply because you don't have the energy to dwell on such doubts; those are the good days. But on the bad ones, everything about yourself is invalidated. You can barely muster the strength to roll out of bed in the morning. You hardly have the motivation to leave the confines of the shower because the hot water scalding your back and shoulders brings about some vague semblance of solace; the steam hides the mistakes you can't bare to reveal. And when you finally wipe away the fog from the mirror, you can't stand to look at yourself, because the reflection staring back at you somehow isn't you."

Depression is real, and it doesn't go away just because someone says, "You'll be okay." Not when you're alone and your thoughts run in circles. But if that one will stand with you so you can vent, cry on their shoulder, and hug. You can find it in yourself to go on for another day. They may not be able to understand what you're going through, but the presence of another is the breath of hope.
Very well put. While I can't claim to "know how it feels" when it comes to things like this, I can certainly lend a sympathetic ear and a shoulder to cry on if needed. You don't necessarily have to experience something yourself to have compassion for others who go through it.
