Really good. Funny, great music, strong story.

My friend Ash was telling me about it, but about the original Indonesian story and kept referencing the story and I was just... confused.

I'd recommend just wanting the movie and deciding for yourself.

Moana was a great movie!

....However, it didn't do enough for me sadly. I loved the characters, and the animation was GORGEOUS, but I guess for me the Disney formula was way more apparent than usual (to which I'd say, the key was in details), and out of all songs I really enjoyed "You're Welcome" only.

Also, we got another Disney movie with surprise twist villain. Where are my Magnificent Bastards and Bitches?

With that said, I surely would recommend it, and I do believe a lot of kids would have fun with it. Heck, I've heard quite a few kids saying they want to dress as Moana or Maui on Halloween, it's all good!

The natives mentioned they liked the movie, but it didn't match with the legends they grew up with.

But that's typical for Disney.

Yeah... I mean, would Disney ever do the REAL ending to the Little Mermaid? I remember reading about it myself when I was younger and getting upset over it.

Having said that, I don't think it's bad that it doesn't match up. You get interested, you will then try to learn more, and it's fun to see the difference between the original and the adaptation.
