She had never been so happy in her life. Some time ago, perhaps in a dream, Tarim's thoughts would turn only reluctantly to the glow in her friend's face when she laughed, or the light that seemed to emanate from her being when she healed the sick and injured at the sanctuary. The thought of that kindness extending to her, who had been reduced to the status of a beast, had been absurd, in that hazy wash of memories. But the eyes that looked down into hers were not afraid, only infinitely soft and dark with doe-like gentleness. Tarim, wondering how she could ever have feared the judgement of those eyes, allowed herself to sink into bliss.
