Just a warm up sketch, that went from a 15 min exercise to a 45 min one.
My current sketch book was a mess, it was filled with much wasted paper, and disappointment. Just a bunch of unintelligible scribbles that were various failed composition thumbnails. So, I erased the light ones, and tore out the others (10 pages worth), leaving a cleaner sketch book with a few empty pages between some more acceptable sketches and pre-drawings for past paintings. The first page was blank and I needed to do some random anthro anatomy studies. What better anatomy then the ever troublesome “Hand Paws”...
If you are curious, I prefer the plain Blick wire bound sketch books. Good paper, good texture, good whiteness, and solid cover. In addition to being fairly affordable, compared to the more high end sketch books. http://www.dickblick.com/products/b.....nd-sketchbook/
And no, that is not a “non-photo blue” pencil I used. It is just a blue Col-Erase pencil. I wanted to see the messy frame work.

I don't mean to be picky, but I think those fingers are missing the third ligament. To me, handpaws seem more like hands that have paw details, whilst these seem like elongated paws, which is definitely and interesting way of looking at it. Trying to find the true line between animal and human.
The look I am going for is 50/50 human/canine, and not human hands with paw pads.
I humbly apologize if these are not to your liking. I can not please everybody.
However, I am personally am pleased with the results, and these will make good references for me to call on in the future if I am having trouble with anthro canine hand paws. *Grin*

Keyboards would be tricky -- you would have to make them out of something that claws wouldn't render rubble in a few weeks. At a flea market, I once saw a typewriter with stainless steel key caps. It was a nice, portable electric; early 1980s, I would guess. As soon as I showed an interest, the price went from $75 to $150. I hope they leave enough room in the dealer's casket to bury him with it; he obviously has no intention of parting with it.
I poked around online for the Blick sketchbooks you like. Not cheap -- $10 - $12 each on their site; and the shipping will kill you buying from the jobbers.

Gorilla Glass! I hav it on my phone and I want it on my next tablet. I don't dare touch the screen on my 19" laptop...
$10-$12 is not bad for the quality of the pad. My favorite is is the Catchet Select Wire Bound Sketch Books. There are amazing quality, and the paper is like drawing on the flesh of angels! http://www.dickblick.com/products/c.....d-sketchbooks/
But they run around $30 a sketch book. So, $12 for close to the same quality is a deal!
I am VERY picky about my materials, I have certain tastes and requirement. I learned along time ago you get what you pay for in art supplies.

Let's face it -- a pack of xerography paper isn't going to do it (I won't mention the thousands of scrawlings I have seen, scribbled on notebook paper and 'scanned' with cellphones). I think I've mentioned that I dabbled in art in my youth -- and quickly determined I wasn't going to make my living doing it -- but I know that better materials elicit better work.
One of my first jobs was working as an audiovisual technician. It was part time and minimum wage, and I had to supply my own tools. Now, 40-odd years later, I look at those tools and realize how poor some of them were. All have been replaced, but the old ones still haunt my tool boxes and dark corners of the basement. I... can't throw them out, but I'd hate to rely on them today.
