Are any of us ever old enough for our first scary movie?

the first and scariest movie I went to when I was (I think) about 11 or 12 was "Aliens"... and I stayed ONLY long enough to see the face hugger leave his body and then be poked at..
at that time, i was so freaked out that I migrated to another theater and saw a bette middle comedy that was playing.. LATER I was glad that i didnt see more of it because when I got older and saw the full thing, I knew I'd have had henious nightmares ... especially with the chestburster..
oh whats even worse for me is that a few years down the road, when i was about 14 or 15, I deleberately avoided seeing Predator, because the trailers SERIOUSLY scared me..
but when I saw it on Showtime (when they were giving away a free month with a 3 month sign up), I absolutely LOVED IT.. it came on in the afternoon and my dad was at work so I had the house to myself.. I WENT CRAZY .. it was AWESOME and I really *really* hated myself for not seeing it on the BIG screen..
I've been watching horror movies since as far back as I can remember. I remember watching the Gate as a little kid because, at least in my area, advertised as a horror movie for kids because it had kids in the movie... that was soooo not a movie for kids.
Remember watching stuff like Child's Play 2 and Phantasm on TV, first on USA Up All Night, then later on Joe Bob Brigg's Monstervision.
Still cannot remember my first horror movie though, but I must have been pretty damn young because I'm kind of used to horror now and nothing scares me... except the Silent Hill Video games (1 through 4), those are seriously fucked.

It's weird how most of our first "scary movie" experiences can actually come from kid's stuff. You can get tons of nightmare fuel past the radar if you market it right. Personally, I'm waiting for the release of Barney's ER Adventure, where his legs get stuck in a combine harvester.
Think my first 'Scary' movie was "Jaws" .. which I saw in the Theater..
Never really liked the 'slasher' flicks what ran amok during my teen years... those being the Friday the 13th franchise, the Nightmare on Elm Street block, and the other various slasher flicks which seemed aimed at audiences who's IQ was just a few points higher than the guy doing the slashing.
Movies that still get me?? Alien .. can't really say if there's any others that I won't watch too close to bedtime. ^_^

My dad was a movie person. So it was most of the genres, with films like Lone Wolf Mcque to Legend. But the horror flicks I remember below my age of 5 years was The Howling, Nightmare on Elm Street and Hellraiser, and other usual famous horror flicks. Sadly, after mum divorced him, it was Disney films from here on out. But at least weekend visitations got us to see more blood on the TV screen :3
The first horro movie that gave me nightmares was this (now cheesy, then top of the line tv effects) ABC tv movie where demons get loose on an airliner from a damaged archeological artifact, Creeping across the floor as a bloody looking goo. I dont remember much other than it had William Shatner. (Anyone know WTF this is?)
A couple years later is one that still gives me the creeps on concept alone; "Dont be Afraid of the Dark" Where goblins are accidentally released in a newly bought old house. they pick on the wife and do the "gaslight" thing, -nasty tricks to make her think shes going nuts, and convince everyone around her she already is, especially since they only show themselves to her and the creepy caretaker.
When everyone has given up on her, they pounce and drag her to their lair and make her one of them, plotting to take their act on the road nw that they have sufficient numbers to escape the house...

My first scary movie was "Howard The Duck". It wasn't designed to be scary, but the bad guy was spooky looking and gave me nightmares for 26 years afterwards.
I still wet the bed when I think about it...and when I don't...I just wet the bed a lot alright...I'm an adult I do what I want.

My first horror movie was Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds. I found it so trippy that I went out of my way to be nice so the neighborhood pigeons wouldn't attack.
After that was Child's Play. Which cost me weeks of sleep because my mother and sisters were swimming with life like china dolls and Cabbage Patch Kids.

Love the pic.
But the thing is, I guess I was never scared by movies.
My first childhood trauma experience was playing Doom on my dad's PC, at 3am, alone, with the speakers turned pretty low, only to be scared fucking shitless by a damn Bull demon charging around a corner and biting my face off. I blew him up with a shotgun moments later, but had to stop playing for a while and go watch some Pokemon on VHS.
Ever since, I've desperately wanted to get some custom-made PJs that looked like the blue armor to sleep in. And a Super Shotgun to hang above my bed :I
I'd ask for a BFG, but that would be ludicrous. I'd get hit with splash damage.

Indeed, as made obvious by its "Once-every-whenever-the-hell-it-feels-like-it" Firing rate.
And the lag problem only got worse from the 9000 series to the 10k model in Quake II D:
Although they sorta fixed the splash problem a little...
Also, Neutrino-based Plasma batteries are ridiculously expensive. It takes a lot of juice to generate a self-contained unstable quantum singularity! </awesome technobabble>

You know ... I'm a total pansy. I got freaked WAY the hell out by Darth Vader when I saw Star Wars the first time (I was, like, six or seven), had nightmares. I don't think I've ever actually sought out an actual horror film to see ... I couldn't take it!
Love the pic, by the by. :)

As a kid one night I snuck out of my room to see what my dad was watching on HBO. Turns out it was John Carpenter's, "The Thing" -Right- at the part with the defibrillation (You know what scene I'm talking about) was when I chose to poke my head out from behind the couch.

Thinking about it, and after reading some comments here, I think the back story here is that the son kept on whining at his mom that he was a big boy now, and he can watch big boy movies. Unfortunately, all the big boy movies tend to be horror-ish, since that's the mother's favorite genre.
Not sure what my first horror movie was, but I do recall one of the first times I saw the film 'Tremors' at my cousin's place. We were all watching... something else at first, and decided to switch to the channel we knew the parents were watching once our program was over. We turned in right at the scene where the doctor and wife were killed, where the wife was digging at the ground, and then the snake tongue thing pops up and hisses at her. IIRC, we all ran to the parent's bedroom.
