Space Battles forum is running a competition for designing three naval ships.

Some detail work for my cruiser design.

One of the problems with the design is that all the guns are high up, making it impossible to engage close in targets. One possible solution to this is to mount the gun turrets on retractable booms. This particular gun is based upon the Apache's M230 chain gun. Optics mount above is modelled after the one currently fitted to the Type 45 destroyer.

Not really the best possible solution, but it's a fun solution. ^.^ Though most of this falls under 'fiddly detail work no one will see in the final design'.
