Not an axolotl; just a plain old larval Plethodon salamander...with some crazy mutations, that is!

Blue-paper was not so far off, as the mexican axolotl is just a paedomorphic Ambystomatid salamander-they reach sexual adulthood without ever metamorphosing from the larval form. So really, the two are quite similar in that they are both in larval forms!
