Adventurer’s Travels: The Captain
My tired boots carried me forward, worn in ways my body refused to submit to. I was beyond the heat, beyond the dirt, and beyond the grasp of exhaustion. My natural curiosity happily warded those mortal trappings away and encouraged me to roam. Not more than several paces away from the gate I took notice of the many merchant crews and Captains from the nearby ports and harbors, all roaming and making merry in their time free of the water. Hungry eyes and an excited mind all sought out willing hosts for conversation as my social nature broke the shackles of the necessary silence of hunt and battle. As luck would have it, a flamboyant and charismatic Frenchman and his wife happened down the trail in a lover’s quarrel greeting all who paid them a second glance. The Frenchman was a Captain of a fine vessel who had fully embraced the practice of working his men hard, but letting them play harder. I delighted in conversating and was more than a trifle amused as he and his betrothed debated on whose attention I had intended before moving along.
