nawp, didn't treat it. if you use it thin with water like this, this is what happens.
the wood grain alternates between areas that are relatively denser and more porous.
so the paint will more or less absorb into one band and more or less stay on the surface of another. if you work thin enough, you can manage how this looks.
although it's easy to add more paint to cover it up thick, as well.

you very much captured the focused "I'm glancing at myself for reference in order to paint this" look.
I only see one problem here which has less to do with the image yourself and more to do with your technique. Your tongue is TOTALLY not out. This is very important! Or, at least my high school art teacher always said so.

So... this stuff really looks like some of the technique I see in your gouache paintings but it's all from a couple of years back. This makes me wonder whether you were doing acrylics for a while, then went to gouache - which in turn makes me wonder, is there anything about acrylics you liked more than gouache?
this was when i was learning to paint with acrylics yep.
i didn't know about gouache then.
acrylics are expensive and impractical for me. i like that gouache can be reactivated
even after it's dry with clean brush and water. this means you never lose paint, you
can always scrub back into what you've done, and so on. it's still a fast medium, but
much more forgiving, i think.
i do think that acrylics have a wider range of values and hues, but that's not a deal
breaker for me.
