Al woke with a startle.
By the windows, he saw that the sun was already starting to rise.
Meaning it had been almost 24 hours since they found Arceus.
And he was still rubbing, desperate to reanimate the fallen god.
In spite of the lack of sleep, of the panic, of the exhaustion, he stubbornly refused to stop for a second, and was starting to have small bouts of unconsciousness.
Get a grip, Al! Don't stop!
And he started rubbing, again.
"Come on..." he whispered. "Wake up... Please..."
No reaction.
Still refusing to give up, the Gengar kept rubbing.
And suddenly, small spasms started agitating the great white body.
Al gasped and froze, hoping beyond hope...
And finally, Arceus opened weakly his eyes.
"GUYS!!" yelled Al. "HE WOKE UP!! HE..."
And this time, it was he who fainted before ending his sentence.
"...didn't sleep for 24 hours..."
"...was working on adrenaline... the relief knocked him out..."
"...be fine... just needs some rest..."
"...how are..."
"...thank you... owe you all my life..."
Al groggily opened his eyes.
And found himself in his hotel room, in his bed.
Bill was here too.
"Glad to see you back in the world of the living," joked the Mega-Swampert.
"Ugh... How long I stayed asleep?"
"A whole day."
"A whole... Arceus! How is..."
"Fine. He's still weak, but out of danger."
Al sighed with relief.
"And you?" asked Bill. "How do you feel?"
"Well... Good. Better than good, actually. Why are you asking that?"
Wordlessly, Bill pointed at the mirror in the room.
Al looked at it.
And stared in astonishment.
He changed.
His arms and tail had doubled in length, and were now heavily covered with fur.
His ears had lengthened too.
His purple fur had turned red in the lower half.
But most shockingly, a third, yellow eye had grown on his forehead.
And he felt stronger, faster, better than he ever felt in his life.
"I guess rescuing a god counts as a feat worthy of his blessing," joked Bill.
A smile tugged at the Gengar - no, Mega-Gengar's - lips.
Meanwhile, the other Big Arms Inc. boys were loading Arceus in a truck.
"Are you sure this is a good idea?" asked Cid.
"Ain't got no choice," answered Angus. "We ourselves can't afford to stay here longer, and he needs better healing possibilities than what Lostole can offer."
"The mayor mustn't be happy," commented Anton. "No more monster, no more tourists."
"Well, actually, Lostole was a popular vacation point before the lake got polluted," replied Don. "Now that it's pure again, it can restart anew."
"Okay, he's comfortably set, and sound asleep," announced Clyde as he, Arno and Ralph exited the truck.
"Good. Let's grab Bill and Al, take one last breakfast at the hotel and hit the road."
Thus it was done.
